I think Jacob loved Joseph the most because Jacob was very old when Joseph was born, and Jacob didn't think his wife Rachel could have any children...so Joseph was kind of like a miracle. Jacob loved all his sons, but Joseph was very special to him.

Joseph's brothers wanted to get rid of him because Jacob once had a dream that he would rule over his older brothers, and that made them hate him. When Joseph was alive, they always thought that no matter what, the oldest would be in charge even if they weren't the best person to be in the lead.
God watches over us in many ways. I think sometimes he uses angels to protect us. Some times he uses bad things that people do to us to cause good things to happen later in our lives. God watches over us by making sure we have food and place to live--either by miracles or by generosity from other people that want to help us. There are many many ways God looks out for us.
As far as you thinking you're not a good person...well...that's not true. SOMETIMES it is true that bad things happen to bad people and good things happen to good people. SOMETIMES it is also true that bad people to bad things to good people for no reason at all. That's what happened to you. You're a good person that had bad things done to her by bad people.
This is not your fault.
